Q. What does it mean to force detach a lock?

A. If a lock is ever broken or misplaced, it cannot be detached from the IQ as it should be because you need to present it with a construction card for it to be detached. In this scenario, you can force detach a lock so it can detach from the IQ automatically.

Q. How can I force detach a lock from the IQ?

A. To force detach a lock from the IQ, first click on the lock actions menu (the three-dot menu), which you will find alongside the lock of your choice on the following pages in Larry Support:

  • The IQ tree list on the IQs page
  • The Details page of an IQ
  • The IQ tab of the Collection (Site) page

This menu includes the option to Force detach. If you click the button, you will see a confirmation modal with a disclaimer that this action should only be triggered if the lock is lost or broken. Force-detaching a healthy lock will break it, which cannot be reversed. Click Force detach which will lead you to the next step where you must fill in the MAC/Device ID of the lock to confirm you wish to do so. Once filled in, click on Force detach again, and your lock will immediately detach.

Q. What happens when I force detach a healthy lock from the IQ?

A. If you accidentally force-detach a healthy lock from the IQ, the lock will break and can no longer be used. This action is irreversible; you must replace this lock with a new one.
